Sakarias Ottersland
Born and raised in the deserts of Southern New Mexico, I started hunting from a young age. I was 11 years old and it was a quail hunt in the foothills of the mountains that surround my home. From then on I was hooked. Not long after my first hunt I purchased my first bow, an old Bear compound, for $15 at a yard sale. I could barely draw it back. It had no sights, no stabilizer and no release but I loved that bow. For the next few years I became proficient and would bowfish the Rio Grande River with it.
I was a junior in high school when I was given my next bow and later harvested my first elk with it on an elk hunt in the Gila National Forest. It's because of that hunt that I now count down the days for September to come each year. There's nothing quite like a large bull elk bugling in a deep canyon!! My passion extends past just elk hunting and I've been fortunate to hunt many different game species in my home state to include mule deer, ibex, oryx and aoudad. Along with hunting, I also find joy in competing in both 3D and target archery. I'm thankful to be part of the Bowhunters Supply Store staff and excited for what the future holds. Remember, always watch the wind and put in the work to climb up that next ridge, you never know what you might find till you get there.
